CLASSES
Kathrin teaches all these styles of yoga for each level and she offers group classes, corporate classes and personal classes. Through her experience, she designs classes for each individual with its individual needs.
Translated from Sanskrit the term Ashtanga means “the eight limbs of yoga.” The eight limbs were first outlined in the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali, an ancient text on the theory and practice of yoga.
These limbs make up the eightfold path, a set of guidelines for living a yogic life. The third limb addresses the asanas or yoga postures, the physical part of practice. The sequence in an Ashtanga class is fix and the postures are always in the same order. In addition to the asanas, Ashtanga Yoga places strong emphasis on the seven other yogic limbs and is very much a spiritual as well as physical practice.
Despite of its reputation of being a vigorous and challenging yoga “style”, Kathrin is a firm believer of Ashtanga yoga being suitable for all levels, for beginners as well as for those with special conditions and she sees it as her mission as a teacher to make Ashtanga yoga accessible for everyone.
This is the traditional, lineage based method of Ashtanga Yoga as developed by guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, of Mysore, South India. It is a unique way of developing a yoga practice where individual growth is supported and honored and all students from beginners to advanced practitioners learn side by side. A qualified teacher will guide students in their practice by introducing them to sun salutations, and then building on that foundation. Postures are taught sequentially, drawing from the Ashtanga set sequences, adding on postures over time. Practice is shorter initially and grows in duration and depth over time. Commitment determines the progress. Everyone, from beginners to experienced yogis, is welcome.
In this class the teacher guides the group through Primary Series – the first and the most important sequence of Ashtanga Yoga, known for its therapeutic qualities. Apart from the yoga poses, students learn how to connect the breath with the movement into a flowing meditative practice. This class might not be suitable for absolute beginners and some yoga experience is recommended.
Vinyasa means synchronizing each movement to a breath. Vinyasa classes string poses together to make a sequence. In contrast to Ashtanga yoga, the sequence doesn’t need to be fix and can vary from class to class. Kathrin believes in intelligent sequencing and alignment-oriented classes which build up towards a peak-pose, letting the body flow in all directions and leaving students nurtured and settled after class. Kathrin’s Vinyasa classes are not too fast yet athletic and strong. She always offers variations and postures can be modified so that anybody can benefit.
Prenatal yoga focuses on postures that are specifically designed for pregnant women’s bodies. Even for experienced yoginis common yoga postures may be too stressful for joints and pelvic area especially as the pregnancy progresses and the baby grows. In addition to modifying common yoga postures for pregnancy, prenatal yoga also emphasizes on breathing, stretches and strengthening moves that help the body to prepare for labor. Kathrin enjoyed the role that yoga played in her own pregnancy and knows about the benefits of yoga during pregnany. This class is appropriate for women in all stages of pregnancy. No prior knowledge of yoga is needed.
Private classes allow the teacher to focus on personal interests and individual needs of each student in a private setting as these sessions are personalized so that students get a more valuable experience.
These classes are ideal for individual needs including injury, trauma recovery, beginners, stress management, gaining flexibility and practice build-up just to name a few.
